Board Meeting Highlights - August 2011

GOVERNANCE

President-Scott Josey, past President-Michael Traves, Trainer/Director- Steve Smith, landowner/Director- David Lacey and Matt Christie had a very productive         meeting with the Minister of  Natural Resources- Charlie Parker on Aug 18th.

The purpose of the meeting was to address issues around training, the lack of a test in place to certify riders in the province (as mandated in the OHV act) which needs to be in place by April 1, 2012 and the lack of new trainers being certified.

We also addressed issues that had been brought forward to past DNR Minister MacDonnell such as access to multi use trails and access to public lands for children under 14.

David Lacey also outlined some landowner issues that should be addressed to provide dollar values for lands used for OHV usage in an attempt to bring more private landowners to the table and increase the amount of riding areas in the province.

Minister Parker seemed very receptive to our points and has asked us to work with Kevin Benjamin of DNR, ATVANS and SANS to see where we can bring together collective policy that will benefit all OHV riders in NS. We will update membership on progress as these meetings progress.
